Ravensburg Commercial Schools and RWU Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences have officially sealed their cooperation: On April 22, representatives from both educational institutions signed a cooperation agreement. The aim is to make the transition from school to work easier, to deepen insights into technical courses of study and to further develop educational programs together.

Principal Bernd Vogt, Head of Department of the Technical High School Thomas Teubert and Head of Department Florian Sonntag took part in the signing ceremony on behalf of the Ravensburg Commercial Schools. RWU was represented by Rector Professor Dr. Thomas Spägele, Vice-Rector Professor Dr. Sebastian Mauser and Heike Krumm, who is responsible for school contacts at RWU.

One of the largest vocational school centers in the region with 2,100 students

With around 2,100 students and around 130 teachers, the Ravensburg vocational schools are one of the largest vocational school centers in the region. Around two thirds of the students attend the school part-time as part of a dual training program. The technical secondary school has around 500 pupils and starts with a single intake from Year 8. In the upper school, when secondary school graduates join the school, the TG has five pupils. The range of courses is supplemented by a vocational college for university entrance qualifications.

"We have a few things in common with RWU," says Headmaster Bernd Vogt. "In addition to the technical subjects, we also have a strong international focus. In the industrial sector, there are classes in which young people from up to 18 nations learn together."

In terms of content, the cooperation with RWU builds on existing formats: For example, a study week has been held at RWU for several years now, during which pupils in years 9 and 10 of the technical high school work hands-on with the Faculty of Technology and Management.

Early insights into technical fields of study and careers

These approaches are to be expanded further in the future. For example, workshops are planned for year 12 directly at RWU, says Heike Krumm. The state-wide study information day is also to be used more to make pupils aware of the courses on offer locally. Another building block is the continuous consolidation of practical projects that provide an early insight into technical fields of study and careers.

Both partners see great opportunities in the collaboration: the pupils benefit from early contact with the university and realistic insights into study content. At the same time, RWU can attract young talent for technical degree courses and counteract the shortage of skilled workers. Together, the two institutions want to help make technical education more attractive and reduce inhibitions.
