The free and flexible online trial course

Like many other colleges and universities, RWU also offers the opportunity to complete a taster course. Not quite sure which degree program suits you best or in which field you would like to start studying? Are you perhaps wavering between Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Physical Engineering or Business Administration?

The following Talentscanners are currently available:

  • Mechanical engineering Talentscanner
  • Talentscanner Technology & Management

Please note: Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accept applications for our online trial course "Talentscanner".

Advantages of the Talentscanner

The online trial course "Talentscanner" offers you the opportunity to gain an insight into the content of various degree courses at RWU. Instead of poring over brochures and sifting through module plans, you can test whether your choice of study feels right and meets your expectations, free of charge and without obligation.

  • Flexible and practical insight into your chosen degree program.
  • Get to know the typical issues and working techniques in the education sector.
  • Find out which fields of activity you could work in after your studies.
  • Test your study aptitude and skills.
  • Graduate with a certificate.

How does the Talentscanner work?

At the beginning, you will receive a technical introduction to the tools used, such as Moodle, Mahara and others. The process of the online trial course will also be explained to you in detail. You will then build up your knowledge independently and virtually, both on the basic content of the foundation course and on subject-specific topics from the advanced course. An introductory video is played to explain the tasks and guide you through your entire trial course. After completing the orientation phase, you will check your learning status with the help of a short quiz. If you pass this intermediate check, you can try out the knowledge you have acquired on very practice-oriented and typical case studies from the degree course and test whether the course is right for you. At the end, you will reflect on your results and receive an individual evaluation.

Good to know: You can complete our online trial course flexibly in 20 to 25 hours. The online trial course can be started and completed at any time . You alone determine the pace.

Basic knowledge and methods

In the orientation phase of the Talentscanner Mesh Construction, the basics of the specialist disciplines vehicle technology (PLUS), energy and environmental technology and mechanical engineering which are required to solve the subsequent practical case studies. You will learn the engineering fundamentals of design, materials science and other topics.

Consolidation phase

As a case study, you will found a start-up and design an e-longboard with tutorial support, from project management to the finished product. This involves converting an existing longboard to an electric drive. You will prepare the portfolio work, a specification sheet and a CAD model, which you will create using CAD software. At the end of your online trial course, you will present your e-longboard prototype.

Talentscanner Technologie und Management - Arbeitsfelder

Talentscanner Technology & Management

Basic knowledge and methods

Our Talentscanner Technology & Management gives you a practical insight into the three degree programs during the orientation phase Business Administration and Management, Physical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (Technology Management).

Specialization phase

For the subsequent specialization phase, you choose your desired major. You can decide which course you want to study during the orientation phase:

In addition to content such as mathematics, accounting, business plan creation, project management and elements from market research, you will create your own first business plan. Incorporating the theoretical content, you will form a start-up and pitch your business plan to a fictitious investor. This will give you an insight into all relevant process areas of a young company and the business administration course. You will also get to know different focus areas.

Optics, sensor technology and everything to do with physics as well as the development of new technical objects are the subject of the trial course. In addition, students work on an innovation during the specialization phase and present it to a fictitious investor at the end. Project management methods are also used here to work on problem solutions in a structured manner. Young inventors are given space for ideas and are supported in implementing them.

As an industrial engineer, you will acquire skills from different areas and work in the interface management of small and large companies, among other things. You will train this multi-perspective view and the associated communication skills in this focus area of the Talentscanner. It combines the basics of STEM and business administration and demonstrates their special function in practice. Building on familiar skills, such as simple programming knowledge, project-based applications are also applied in a more advanced way.
