Green spaces in the city provide a better climate, give insects such as wild bees a habitat and help to preserve biodiversity. However, open spaces are usually rare in inner city areas. That's why creative ideas are needed.
With the greening of two bus stops, the university town of Weingarten, the Weingarten University of Education and the RWU Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences have implemented such a creative idea in a joint project in the Weingarten school center and in the upper town in Richard-Mayer-Straße. "By greening the bus stops, we are working together with the universities to show what sustainable urban development can look like in a vibrant university town," says Melanie Koller, the city's university representative.
Potential in the bundling of forces
"One of the great things about the project is that it is a joint production between the city, the PH and RWU. There is certainly a lot of potential in combining these forces. And this is also expressed in the slogan: Together we are strong in many different ways," says Christoph Oldenkotte, Head of Public Relations at RWU.
"Diversely strong." - is the message of this campaign. This not only refers to the diversity of plants and insects that find a habitat on the roofs. "Life at the universities is also characterized by diversity. Not only are the study opportunities diverse, but also the people from all over the world who study, teach and research here and make life in the university town of Weingarten more colorful," says Arne Geertz, Head of Public Relations and Marketing at PH Weingarten.
