Once a year, the Soroptimist International Club Ravensburg/Weingarten awards the "Soroptimist Scholarship for Women in Technology Studies", which is endowed with 1,200 euros, to a female student at Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences. To be eligible for the award, the student must be studying a technical subject and be socially committed beyond her everyday student life.

For the year 2025/2026, the award committee selected Viola Hinz as the winner. She impressed the jury members both in writing and in a personal interview. Viola Hinz first worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years before deciding to make a fresh start. She is now in her sixth semester at RWU studying energy and environmental technology.

Creating spaces where women can empower each other

During her studies, she works as a tutor in the chemistry lab at RWU and as a working student at Andritz Hydro in the "Service & Rehab" department. As a board member of the mechanical engineering student council, she promotes exchange between female students and creates spaces in which they can empower each other. She is committed to ensuring that more women pursue this path in technical subjects.

The Soroptimist Club Ravensburg/Weingarten would like to increase or equalize the proportion of women in qualified technical professions. With the help of the scholarship, it wants to encourage other women to take the plunge into STEM professions. Female students like Viola Hinz are role models in this area and should be encouraged.

Soroptimist International has around 65,000 members and over 2,900 clubs in 118 countries and is an international organization of working women. Through a worldwide network, it is committed to empowering women in society, human rights for all, global peace and international understanding, volunteer work, diversity and friendship.
