In June, RWU welcomed groups of high school students from both South Africa and Mexico. The guests from Johannesburg visited the university in Weingarten as part of their student exchange program with Rupert-Ness-Gymnasium in Wangen. As was the case last year, RWU’s program generated a great deal of interest.
The theme of the visit was “From equality to equity: how we can make it work.” After a welcome from RWU’s International Office, Anja Wagner, the Equal Opportunity Officer, introduced the group to the topic. Her presentation highlighted the current status quo at RWU and outlined specific measures for promoting equality as well as available support services.
Fascinated by the students’ innovative spirit
Another highlight of the day was a visit to the Formula Student team’s workshop. The students were fascinated by the race cars and the students’ innovative spirit. The program was rounded out by a campus tour and a group lunch in the cafeteria, during which initial plans for a reunion next year were already being made.
Angela Tanner, coordinator for German schools abroad, gave an all-around positive assessment: “The odds are good that we’ll soon be able to welcome graduates from South Africa as students here at RWU.”
A Vibrant Partnership with Mexico City
Just a few days later, the next international visit took place: a group of students from Mexico City visited the university. There is a long-standing, close partnership between RWU and the “Colegio Alemán” there.
Jörg Wendorff welcomed the Mexican guests and, together with the International Office, had prepared a varied program that introduced the students to the offerings and opportunities at RWU. The highlight of this visit was the intercultural exchange with students from the Faculty of Social Work, Health, and Nursing, during which open discussions opened up exciting, cross-cultural perspectives.
Both groups left RWU with inspiring impressions. Organizer Angela Tanner is also looking forward to the next reunion: “These partnerships with German schools abroad are not only a valuable opportunity for the students there. They are also an important aspect of student recruitment for us as a highly international university.”
