Artificial intelligence ring seminar

"Being human in the age of artificial intelligence"

 Prof. Dr. Ziad Mahayni

RWU will once again be hosting the Artificial Intelligence Ring Seminar in the summer semester of 2026. As part of the series of events, there will be lectures throughout the semester dealing with the social opportunities and risks of this technology.

On Thursday, 7 May at 16:00, Professor Dr. Ziad Mahayni from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences will speak on the topic of "Being human in the age of artificial intelligence".

Artificial intelligence is not just a technology in the hands of humans. It is a technology that has a particular impact on us. It changes our understanding of ourselves and of the world.

The key question that arises in the face of increasingly powerful AI is therefore not the possibilities of technology, but those of humans: How are humans different from machines, where is their place in the world and will there still be a special place for them at all in the age of AI? The lecture explores these questions from a philosophical and ethical perspective.

Ziad Mahayni is Professor of Applied Ethics at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and Director of the Center for Ethical Issues in the 21st Century. He studied chemistry and philosophy at the TU Darmstadt, the Université de Bordeaux and Harvard University and previously taught in the fields of future design and creative entrepreneurship. He is the author of the book "Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", editor of the book series "Ethical Issues in the 21st Century" and runs the podcast "On the Brink - Philosophy for the Digital Age".
