Professor Dr. Barbara Niersbach was elected as the new Vice-Rector for Research, International Affairs and Transfer by the RWU Senate on November 6. She succeeds Professor Dr. Michael Pfeffer and will take office for the summer semester on March 1, 2026.
The Senate had already confirmed Professor Dr. Heidi Reichle and Professor Dr. Sebastian Mauser as Vice-Rectors before the summer break. Heidi Reichle is responsible for didactics, digitalization and university communication, Sebastian Mauser for research, teaching and quality management.
"Networking and bringing people together"
Barbara Niersbach has been at RWU for nine years and teaches in the areas of B2B marketing and sales. She has been the international representative of the Faculty of Technology and Management for seven years and has been the head of the part-time Master's degree course in International Business Management and Sustainability for five years, which she has given an international focus. She also regularly supervises doctoral students in a doctoral cooperation with the University of Bamberg.
"I consider transfer to be particularly valuable in my future area of responsibility," said Barbara Niersbach during her presentation at the public Senate meeting. "Networking and bringing people together is a task I will be happy to take on for RWU."
The Rector of RWU, Professor Dr. Thomas Spägele, congratulated Barbara Niersbach on her election and thanked Michael Pfeffer for 17 years as Vice-Rector. "That was a lot of work and, above all, our international orientation also bears your signature, Mr. Pfeffer." The term of office of the current Vice-Rectorate runs until August 2028.
