Weingarten –On Friday, June 12, the Faculty of Social Work, Health, and Nursing at RWU held its graduation ceremony. This semester, 75 students from the programs in Social Work, Nursing, Health Economics, Applied Psychology, Applied Health Sciences, and Social Work and Participation received their bachelor’s or master’s degrees.

Professor Dr. Barbara Niersbach, Vice Rector for Research, International Affairs, and Knowledge Transfer, and Professor Dr. Anja Klimsa, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, Health, and Nursing, welcomed the guests. Barbara Niersbach congratulated the graduates on behalf of the Rector’s Office and emphasized the faculty’s social relevance as well as the social responsibility its graduates will bear in the future.

“Now is the time to give something back.”

“Interpersonal skills are becoming increasingly valuable in a world with growing artificial intelligence,” she said. Anja Klimsa also addressed this topic in her speech: “We need interpersonal connections; otherwise, a society falls apart.”

She also highlighted the support the graduates had received from their families and friends in recent years. “Now is the time to give something back,” said Anja Klimsa, referring both to the graduates’ personal circles and to society at large.

Two theses were honored

In addition to the diplomas, two awards were presented. Rita Kassel, a graduate of the bachelor’s program in Social Work, received an award from the Ravensburg district for her thesis on discrimination and loneliness among trans* people. The award was presented to her by Petra Lill, the district’s head of social affairs.

In addition, Clemens Moll, mayor of the city of Weingarten, presented graduate Harry Heinrich with a prize for his master’s thesis. In it, he explored how the issues of poverty and social exclusion are addressed on Platform X. Harry Heinrich completed the master’s program in Social Work and Participation.

After the certificates and awards were presented, the official part of the event came to a close, and the graduates were able to raise a toast and celebrate together with their families, friends, and fellow students. The faculty student council had prepared a buffet of sandwiches, other appetizers, and drinks. This time, the trumpet trio Max, Julius, and Jona from the Ravensburg Music School provided the musical accompaniment for the afternoon.
