In the Wednesday seminar on January 28 at RWU, Professor Dr. Marius Hofmeister will address the question of how democratic skills can be promoted in computer science courses.
Weingarten - Democracy forms the basis of our communal life. It thrives on people who learn to live democratically, play an active role in shaping it and act responsibly. In times of growing social division and radicalization, social inequality and increasing political and military threats, it is important to examine what can be done to defend and preserve democracy. The lecture approaches the question of what role universities play in democracy education and how democratic competence can be promoted in computer science courses.
Professor Dr. Marius Hofmeister is Professor of Computer Science and Dean of Applied Computer Science at Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences. In addition to his work at the university, he is involved in the further development of the recommendations for Bachelor's degree programs in computer science in the German Informatics Society (GI) and is the department's representative at the Departmental Conference on Computer Science (FBTI). He has written various specialist articles, such as "Informatik, die begeistert: Was Studiengänge voneinander lernen können", which are also dedicated to the topic of university-wide and social exchange.
The Wednesday seminar is part of the event series "Demokratie beginnt bei dir - Mitdenken. Have your say. Vote." of the HAWs in Baden-Württemberg for the 2026 state elections.
