TOX Pressotechnik SE & Co. KG presented the TOX Applied Engineering Award for the 13th time on March 25. With this award, the company, in cooperation with RWU, recognizes outstanding academic achievements with particular practical relevance.

This year, Sarah Weiß, a graduate of the Master's program in Computer Science at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, was honored for her thesis. The award-winning Master's thesis entitled "Computer Vision with Anonymized Data: A Systematic Approach for Evaluation using Realistic Anonymization" was supervised by Professor Dr Markus Schneider.

Privacy-by-design approach minimizes legal risks as early as the development stage

The award-winning work makes a direct contribution to the practical implementation of privacy-compliant camera and AI systems in Industry 4.0 applications and related areas. It shows how personal image data can be processed in compliance with the GDPR through realistic anonymization and which technical challenges must be overcome for practical use.

This privacy-by-design approach minimizes legal risks right from the development stage. The high scientific relevance of the results was also underlined by their presentation at the renowned AI 2025 conference in Potsdam.

Knowledge transfer between university and industry

The award ceremony took place at TOX's headquarters in Weingarten. In addition to the award, the prize for Sarah Weiß includes a stay of several days at an international TOX location. Destinations such as Brazil, China or India are available, a real highlight for exclusive insights and valuable international experience.

In the run-up to the award ceremony, RWU students were given an insight into practice at the "Meet the young professionals" event. Young engineers presented themselves, their day-to-day work and current projects.

The TOX Applied Engineering Award has been presented annually since 2013 to RWU students who stand out for their special engineering achievements with high practical relevance. The nomination is made by the university's professors. In addition to targeted training and further education, TOX is particularly committed to recognizing outstanding academic achievements. The Applied Engineering Award underlines this commitment and at the same time promotes the transfer of knowledge between university and industry.
