In early June, about 25 RWU students traveled to Geiselwind for this year’s WiWi Championships—one of Germany’s largest student festivals, where student councils from the field of economics compete against one another. The trip was organized by the Technology & Management Student Council, which competed on behalf of RWU for the first time this year.

The participants camped together for several days at the festival grounds and competed against teams from all over Germany in sports such as soccer, dodgeball, flunkyball, and beer pong. The highlight of the sporting events was the flunkyball team: After victories in the first round against RPTU Kaiserslautern, in the second round against TH Augsburg, and in the round of 16 against OTH Regensburg, the team also prevailed in the quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals. There, they were narrowly defeated by the University of Passau. In the third-place match, however, the RWU team defeated the joint team from the Universities of Vienna and Graz, securing third place among the 64 participating universities.

A festival atmosphere, new connections, and plenty of team spirit

The team’s participation was made possible in part by Karer Consulting AG from Berg, which provided the Technology & Management Student Council with jerseys free of charge in collaboration with the alumni and student association LionLINK. In addition to the athletic competition, the focus was above all on the shared experience: several days of festival atmosphere, new connections with other universities, and plenty of team spirit. The student council looks back on a successful event and is already looking forward to next year’s WiWi Championships.
