Parliamentary Exchange on Violence
On October 7, 2026, Professor Dr. Julia Wege, who holds a professorship in Social Work at RWU, was invited to speak at a parliamentary exchange in the German Bundestag. The event was organized by TERRE DES FEMMES in collaboration with representatives from the SPD and CDU/CSU parliamentary groups and focused on the topic “Violence and Exploitation in Prostitution—What Political Action Is Needed?” TERRE DES FEMMES has long called for the introduction of a ban on the purchase of sex, similar to those in Sweden, Norway, and France, and for greater focus on addressing the root causes of prostitution.
“Many people still have a distorted view of the realities of life for the women affected.”
In her presentation, Julia Wege focused in particular on scientific findings from her biographical research with women in prostitution. She shed light on individual life trajectories, experiences of violence, and structural dependencies. She also drew on her many years of practical experience in social work. In the subsequent discussion with members of the Bundestag and other experts, the need for political action and ways to improve the protection of affected women were discussed.
Julia Wege has been actively involved in various policy-making bodies for many years. Among other roles, she has served as an expert witness in the state parliaments of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.
