From 17 to 19 March 2026, the CLIC - Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication - took part in the working conference of the Working Group of Language Centers (AKS) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Under the motto "Languages 'R' Us", around 330 language teachers from 12 countries met to discuss current developments in university language teaching, take up innovative impulses and deepen the professional exchange. Since its foundation in 1970, the AKS has been committed to the continuous development of research-based language education at universities. It offers institutions and specialists in language teaching, language didactics, further education and research a central forum for the exchange of experience and information. The CLIC has been a member of the AKS since 2014.
"Languages are more than just a tool: foreign languages serve intercultural communication and peaceful coexistence. They reflect the values of the respective society, through them we understand each other and the world," says Gunter Lorenz, Head of the Language Center at FAU.
Exchange in the field of English didactics
In addition to this conference, the CLIC is also regularly active at other specialist events, both in person and online. An important part of this networking is participation in the IELTS conference for scientific exchange and further training in the field of English teaching.
Dr. Fauzia Obaid Ahmed, English teacher at CLIC, took part in Brighton from April 21 to 24 to learn about current trends in English teaching and to integrate the impulses into her own teaching practice.
German as a foreign and second language in the specialist network
The CLIC is also active in the professional network in the field of German as a foreign and second language. From March 19 to 21, the CLIC was represented at the 51st annual conference of the German as a Foreign and Second Language Association (FaDaF), which was held at Schmalkalden University under the motto "mit.Deutsch.machen".
Kerstin Jacob-Rauch, GFL teacher at CLIC, also took advantage of the opportunity to take part in the events online: "The FaDaF conference gave me valuable ideas for our GFL courses - especially on diversity training methods and task formats that integrate global responsibility more strongly into the classroom. "The question of how AI can support grammar teaching and how closely language education is linked to democracy and society was also exciting."
Continuous quality development through networking
Through regular participation in international conferences and professional exchange in various networks, CLIC ensures that it is always up to date with the latest quality standards in the language sector. The knowledge gained flows directly into the further development of courses, examination formats and advisory structures - with the aim of providing students with high-quality, practice-oriented and scientifically sound language learning.
