Practice-Based and Personalized

In teaching, an important part of our work is to ensure that we teach our students how to apply what they have learned to real-world problems and make the practical relevance tangible, whether through appropriate teaching methods, in the lab or on field trips. In science-supporting areas such as our central administration, practical orientation means that we work together to find implementable solutions and take a hands-on approach to challenges.

We are a university of short distances, both literally and figuratively. Our facilities are located on a small, friendly campus, which promotes personal contact with colleagues and facilitates cooperation. Flat hierarchies and personal contacts are important to us, which is why we make a point of ensuring that the university management and executives always have an open ear for their employees. Introductory events for new professors and employees are held regularly to establish contact with colleagues and important contacts, and to provide the "newcomers" with important tips and advice for their work.

International and Innovative

When you teach with us, you do so partly in English, and you supervise students from many different countries. More than sixteen percent of our approximately 3,700 students come to us from all over the world. In science administration, such as Student Services or the International Office, you advise and support young people who have come to our university from abroad on a daily basis. We therefore offer English classes to our staff, and with Erasmus+ we particularly promote job shadowing, language courses, staff weeks and short-term lectureships abroad.

For us, openness to the world also means that we dare to take an open look at the problems of our globalized world and try to contribute to their solution with innovative concepts, for example in the fields of e-mobility, autonomous systems or novel care concepts. As a scientist, you can get involved with our research institutes and projects, and support students in concept development in teaching.

Get Involved

As an employee or professor at RWU, you have a wide range of opportunities to get involved. You can play an active role in shaping the university in one of the numerous workgroups and committees, get involved in occupational safety as a first aider or fire safety helper, or get involved in our staff council or one of our research institutes. There is constructive discussion and debate at our university, and we expressly welcome our employees' commitment to issues that are close to their hearts.

Continuing Education

We offer all our employees, whether from science or the science-supporting areas, numerous opportunities for internal and external continuing education in the form of workshops, seminars and lectures. We support our managers with our "FührungPlus" management program and our teaching staff can seek advice from the didactics team on innovative teaching methods and techniques. With English lessons as part of working hours and further training opportunities abroad with Erasmus+, we specifically promote the soft skills, international mindset and personal competence of our employees and professors.

What We Offer Our Lecturers

If you are involved in teaching at RWU, you will benefit from our excellent network with companies in the Lake Constance region, whether for student projects or your own research. Unlike at large universities, you will supervise small classes at RWU, and thus have more time for your students. Thanks to the short distances and flat hierarchies, you will be able to establish personal contacts with employees from all areas of RWU. Last but not least, you will have a lot of freedom and opportunities to shape your teaching.

What We Offer Our Administrative Staff

If you work in science administration at RWU, for example in the IT, HR or Finance Department, you will work in small teams on varied tasks. We also offer our employees many options for customizing their working hours, from flextime accounts to part-time models to remote working.

Compatibility of Career and Family Responsibilities

We attach great importance to the compatibility of career and family responsibilities. We have anchored this in our university strategy, and for several years we have been certified as a family-friendly university. For example, if you need to look after your child at short notice during working hours, you can use the parent-child office. You also have the option of arranging remote working or part-time work. In addition, you can get advice on the subject of care leave.

Workplace Health Promotion

Health and well-being have a direct influence on whether we can engage in our work with joy and vigor. That is why promoting and maintaining the health of our employees and professors is an important issue. Every semester, we offer all of our employees a variety of workplace health promotion measures, many of them within working hours. The offerings range from impulse lectures to physiotherapeutic counseling to sports during the lunch break. In addition, the topic of healthy leadership is an integral part of our management development program.
