Care & Health: crisis-proof, promising, dynamic and designable!

The course takes into account the overall increasing demand for academically qualified nursing staff, which is now also growing in Germany. Nursing staff trained in this way make an important contribution to the well-founded further development and safeguarding of the future of direct nursing practice, which is confronted, among other things, with increasingly complex nursing situations. This is why the course of study conveys in an innovative way the practical and theoretical contents of health and nursing training as well as further central nursing specialist and scientific competences.

Training and studies in only 4 1/2 years!

The course is divided into two sections: The first section (1st to 6th semester) is primarily devoted to vocational training in health care and nursing. For this purpose, the students form a course association at the Academy of Health and are accompanied individually by reference teachers. The theoretical lessons, including practical exercises, comprise 2,100 hours in the form of block weeks. In the periods in between, practical phases lasting several weeks (2,500 hours) are to be completed in the training clinic (see below), but also in other facilities (e.g. outpatient nursing service, old people's home, hospice, rehabilitation facility, etc.). Achievements achieved during this period are already credited towards the course of study, so that, for example, a practical semester, which is usual in Bachelor's degree programmes, is omitted. At the same time, courses take place once a week at the university, the attendance of which is in turn credited towards health/nursing education. The services rendered are counted towards both studies and training. After three years or 6 semesters, the written, practical and oral final examination takes place (nursing exam), the successful passing of which includes the state admission to a profession in health/nursing care and the admission to the second stage of studies (7th to 9th semester). It then takes place exclusively in the form of a course of study, expands the competences acquired during the training by (subject-related) scientific components and ends with the Bachelor's thesis. Simultaneous employment (part-time) as a nurse is recommended and possible in the second stage of studies; however, this is not absolutely necessary.

Diverse career opportunities

The fields of work for the graduates lie equally in all care sectors (inpatient, day-care or outpatient care) and above all in the care of people with complex care needs as well as the further development of direct care. Further possible fields of application are the counselling and training of patients and their relatives, quality and project management, participation in the development and introduction of new nursing concepts as well as research in nursing science. In addition to all care/health facilities, employers may also include health insurance funds and care support points.
