The “Digital Value Creation” industry working group at RWU’s Institute for Digital Transformation, led by Professor Dr. Frank Ermark, met for another workshop day. Representatives from the industrial companies ifm, KSB, König & Bauer, Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen, RAFI, and Voith, as well as professors from various faculties at the university, used the event to engage in an open exchange on best practices, current challenges, and new ideas related to digital value creation.
The focus was on how companies can successfully design and further develop digital business models. The current thematic focus of the workshop series is on the industrial application of artificial intelligence. Discussions covered both the use of AI to increase internal efficiency and automation, as well as its role as an “enabler” for digital innovations, new services, and customer-oriented business models.
Guest speakers from Google Cloud, Dell Technologies, and doubleSlash addressed the audience at RWU
Established four years ago, the working group regularly brings together experts from academia and industry. At the most recent workshop, high-profile guest speakers from Google Cloud, Dell Technologies, and doubleSlash enriched the discussion with insights from their respective fields of application. The program was complemented by keynote presentations from the university, including one on AI-driven automation in marketing.
The third and next workshop day of 2026 is scheduled for November. The focus then will be on skills transformation in industry: What new skills do employees and managers need? How are roles, work processes, and qualification requirements changing as a result of digitalization and AI? And what consequences does this have for the education of students at universities?
Through the “Digital Value Creation” industry working group, RWU is strengthening the ongoing dialogue between academia and industry and creating space for shared perspectives on the AI-driven new wave of digital transformation in industry.
