Engineer and vocational school teacher - the "+" of future

Germany's skilled workers are top-notch - thanks to dual training in companies and vocational schools. To this end, we train vocational school teachers who are both technically and mathematically fit and have social and didactic skills for the teaching profession. The combination of an engineering degree with the teaching profession means excellent career prospects in two exciting specializations:

Automotive engineering - development has rarely been more energetic. Designing sustainable mobility, experiencing freedom.

Manufacturing technology - networked, energy-efficient and resource-saving. Enabling design freedom and individuality through additive manufacturing.

Design and teach technology

The program opens up two professional worlds: After the bachelor's degree, directly into industry or with a subsequent master's degree into teaching.

The activities of an automotive engineer are diverse. You plan, develop and test products for the automotive industry, are responsible for economical production or quality assurance. In addition to industry, you can also work in engineering offices, government agencies and associations. As a result of the growing engineering gap, the demand for engineers is enormous, and the earning potential is in the top bracket. Industrial companies in mechanical engineering offer excellent working conditions and outstanding social benefits.

In the teaching profession, enjoyment in dealing with trainees is as valuable as technical skills. Organizational and communication skills also play a major role. The Automotive Engineering PLUS bachelor's degree program therefore also teaches didactics, vocational pedagogy, communication skills, and management and leadership skills.

Profession & Perspectives

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded the title of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), giving you the opportunity to work directly in industry as an engineer or to obtain a master's degree at universities. The master's degree program "Higher teaching qualification at vocational schools in automotive and manufacturing engineering" enables you to enter the teaching profession. Here, the chances of being hired are excellent, regardless of economic fluctuations.

Structure

The program is conducted jointly with the Weingarten University of Education and the Weingarten State Seminar for Didactics and Teacher Education. This enables you to acquire didactic skills already in your basic studies.

Many practical phases and internships in well-equipped laboratories and at school complement the theory. The fourth semester is a practical study semester in which you work independently on a project from your future working world.

The main course of study is structured by elective modules and project work according to your preferences.

The Bachelor's thesis, which is written at the university or in cooperation with companies, marks the end of the program.

The degree program also enables you to take the trainer aptitude test at the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce ).

TO THE ONLINE APPLICATION

WHO GETS A STUDY PLACE?

The applicants with the best overall grades are admitted. In the last admission procedures, all applicants received a study place.

A preliminary internship is not required.

Selection procedure - how is the overall grade calculated?

At RWU, the admission procedure for this degree program is governed by the Admission and Selection Statutes for Bachelor's programs are applied and carried out on the basis of the application documents. The preparation of a proposal list or ranking list is explained below: from the application documents, the applicant's position on a ranking list is determined according to the following procedure: Calculation of a weighted overall grade according to the formula
[(average grade of university entrance qualification)+(grades German, mathematics*2 and continued modern foreign language)/4] / 2

If there are more applicants than places, 90% of the places are awarded by the selection procedure (best overall grade) and 10% of the places are awarded by waiting period.

Improvements of the overall grade

This overall grade may be improved if one or more of the following qualifications are demonstrated:

  • Completed vocational training in metal construction, mechanical and automotive engineering, mechatronics, energy and electrical occupations, and other occupational groups as defined in the Admission and selection statutes: 0,3
  • Professional activity in the training occupation of at least 1 year: 0.1. This bonus is limited to 0.3 for 3 years of professional experience.

Extracurricular achievements, pract. Activities and recognized previous experience: 0,2 (max. 0,2)

  • Federal Volunteer Service
  • Relevant internships of more than 6 weeks duration
  • Trial studies at the RWU → Talent scanner of the RWU

MOVE-UP PROCEDURE

Prospective students often apply to several universities and study programs. As a result, study places regularly become vacant again because an applicant decides to take up another study place. These vacant places are then awarded to those who did not make it in the first place. Places are again awarded according to the ranking list, i.e. first to those with the best overall grade.

Further information about the application and the allocation of study places can be found in the Admissions Office.

SEMESTER FEE

Each semester , a semester fee is due for all students upon enrollment or re-registration. This fee is charged at a similar rate by all universities in Germany.

Composition and amount of the fee

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND FOR SECOND DEGREE PROGRAMS

In Baden-Württemberg, there has been a tuition fee for international students (non-EU citizens) and a second-study fee since the winter semester 2017/2018. Thus, in some cases, a tuition fee must be paid in addition to the semester fee.

Prior to enrollment, applicants from non-EU countries or applicants for a second degree will receive a form to assess whether a tuition fee obligation actually exists.

The amounts and detailed information can be found under Finances
