Why business informatics?

We all see it: each of us expects ever more individualized and smarter products and services in ever shorter time frames - and at low cost. In a globalized world, companies have to assert themselves against the ever-increasing competitive pressure, also internationally. This is often achieved by using the most important building block of digitalization: information technology (IT).

This can make processes more efficient. Completely new business models are also possible: e.g. shopping portals, mobile and voice-based services from the cloud and much more. This is how the right IT is designed from a business problem. And then, of course, successfully implemented. This is how companies will ultimately be successful. Studying business informatics therefore means learning how the worlds of business administration and IT can interact optimally. The subject of business informatics is IT in business, public administration and other institutions.

Contents of the study program

Our Business Informatics study program in Weingarten offers a balanced mix of traditional business administration and computer science. With a focus on business informatics topics. At the same time, there is a special focus on practical orientation. The entire fifth semester of the curriculum is dedicated to this. The final project work and the Bachelor's thesis are usually written in collaboration with companies or organizations in the region. By selecting elective subjects and compulsory elective areas, students can determine their own individual profile as a business informatics specialist.

Incidentally, we offer a consecutive Master's study program in Information Systems based on the Bachelor's degree. It is recognized as a general admission requirement for entry into a civil service career in the higher civil service - and also offers the possibility of a subsequent doctorate.

Career prospects

Business IT specialists deal with the planning, development and use of IT for a wide variety of organizations. Graduates therefore work in all areas: in industry, trade, services, education, health and administration. Whether management, organization, sales and marketing, development, consulting and training - business IT specialists can be found in a wide variety of functions. Or in a nutshell: You have a free choice!

Digitalization is producing new technologies at ever shorter intervals. In order to use these successfully for organizations, appropriate business models, business processes and, of course, the right IT must be designed and implemented. Or in a nutshell: Business IT specialists are needed in very large numbers today and in the foreseeable future!

To the online application

Who receives a study place?

All applicants who meet the admission requirements will receive an offer of admission.

Selection procedure - how is the overall grade calculated?

At RWU, this study program is subject to the admission and selection regulations for Bachelor's study programs is applied and carried out on the basis of the application documents. The creation of a shortlist or ranking list is explained below: The applicant's position on a ranking list is determined from the application documents according to the following procedure: Calculation of a weighted overall grade according to the formula
[(average grade of the university entrance qualification)+(grades German, mathematics * 2 and continued modern foreign language)/4] / 2

If there are more applicants than places, 90 % of the places are allocated by the selection procedure (best overall grade) and 10 % of the places are allocated according to waiting time.

Improvements to the overall grade

This overall grade can be improved if one or more of the following qualifications are proven:

  • Completed vocational training as an IT clerk, IT specialist or e-commerce clerk: 0.3
  • Professional experience in the training occupation of at least 1 year: 0.1. This bonus is limited to 0.3 for 3 years of professional experience.

Extracurricular achievements, pract. Activities and recognized previous experience: 0.1 per qualification, max. 2 qualifications can be taken into account:

  • Federal Voluntary Service (min. 11 months)

Succession procedure

Prospective students often apply to several universities and degree programs. As a result, study places regularly become available again because an applicant decides to apply for a different course. These places that become available again are awarded in a succession procedure to those who did not get in first. Places are again allocated according to the ranking list, i.e. first to those with the best overall grade.

Further information on the application and allocation of places can be found at the Admissions Office.
