Weingarten - What do I do after school - a question that pupils ask themselves towards the end of their school years. The decision is a major challenge, given the wide range of study and training options available. With the newly concluded cooperation agreement between Welfen-Gymnasium and Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences, the two educational institutions want to offer more concrete support. As part of this partnership, two eleventh grade classes visited the university on July 11 and took part in workshops.
Early orientation for better decisions
The school classes were welcomed by Heike Krumm, contact person for school contacts at RWU. She introduced the university, the courses on offer and the campus: "It is important to me that young people like you get an early insight into the world of higher education and can discover their options."
Professor Dr. Thomas Spägele, Rector of RWU, encouraged the young people to go out into the world and try things out: "A detour is often the shortest way to your goal. Make your own mistakes, try things out and if you end up finding what you're passionate about - you've done everything right." Principal of Welfen-Gymnasium, Tilmann Siebert, added: "In addition to the view into the distance, it is just as valuable to have a university like RWU right on your doorstep. We are therefore all the more pleased that we are now launching a cooperation together."
Workshops from the fields of technology, business and social affairs
After the official signing of the contract, the students took part in various workshops led by professors and RWU staff. The offerings were from the fields of technology, business and social affairs and provided initial insights into typical subject areas at the university. These included scientific thinking using magic tricks, questioning techniques in social work and economic contexts and market behavior using well-known products as examples.
