The 'Quality Workshop' is a format for the continuous development of RWU. It has been offered regularly since 2012 and is open to all students, teachers and staff. The most recent Quality Workshop took the form of an online survey conducted in December 2023, which focused on the quality of studying, teaching, and working at RWU. Alongside satisfaction ratings, numerous suggestions for improvement were collected and forwarded to the relevant departments for consideration and, where feasible, implementation.

The science administration has implemented many suggestions

One topic that was frequently mentioned was improving the learning environment, particularly with regard to the technical equipment in lecture halls and the expansion of the Wi-Fi network. A lot has been done in this area, but some work is still ongoing. For instance, projectors with HDMI cables have been installed in some lecture halls, old equipment has been replaced, larger screens have been set up, and control displays have been installed. Further work is still pending. The Wi-Fi quality in buildings H and C has been assessed, and additional access points have been installed. The replacement of old equipment is ongoing. Measurements are planned for further buildings next year.

Accessibility, particularly to the Human Resources department, the IT and Student Services, has improved. For example, all employees can now be reached on their usual telephone number, even when working from home, thanks to telephone software. Availability times have become more transparent thanks to the inclusion of relevant information in email signatures. Smaller issues have also been addressed, such as professionalising Outlook use through short training courses for employees and teachers.

The CLIC Language Centre's marketing campaign is a highlight

In response to requests from many students, the CLIC Language Centre has worked hard to increase the visibility of its course offerings. The CLIC website has been completely redesigned and modernised, and a poster campaign and monitor advertising have been rolled out in the buildings. These advertising measures, which include Instagram posts at the beginning of the semester, are designed to be long-term and showcase the language centre's diverse range of courses.

Challenging issues

However, some issues are particularly challenging because they are either time-consuming or ongoing tasks, or simply not feasible. Some suggestions relate to the content and structure of specific degree programmes. These are very specific, and not all of them can be implemented.

Of course, there are also positive examples. For example, the Business Administration and Management degree programme has created a Moodle course for first-year students with tips on the apps and systems they need. The 'Social Work' degree programme now offers a self-study course on academic work. New information formats on studying, assessment criteria and career fields for the Applied Psychology programme are in the planning stage. Faculty M has set up a Moodle course through which students can provide teachers with direct feedback. We would also like to point to the programme evaluations, which give every student the opportunity to evaluate their programme in detail throughout their studies.

The next quality workshop is coming up

It is part of RWU's ongoing commitment to improvement. Improvement takes time and requires perseverance. That is why the workshop is offered regularly. The next workshop, which will be conducted as an online survey, is taking place at the end of November. All students, teachers and staff are once again called upon to participate in the continuous improvement of RWU.

A presentation on the survey results and the implementation status of the 2023 Quality Workshop is available via the QM portal.
