Then our master's program "Technology Management and Optimization", or TMO for short, is just right for you. It combines technology, business and management - with an emphasis on content that you can shape according to your personal inclinations and that fits your plans for the future.

Study and study objectives

The master's program focuses on the topics of technology management, product / business model development and production optimization. You will learn to understand future developments, assess their potential and optimally align companies and their products and services with them.

As a full-time course of study, the program has a standard duration of three or four semesters and 90 ECTS with the option of selecting from three profile directions. Depending on the chosen profile, the focus is then more on engineering, natural sciences or business administration modules. You should therefore have a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or a related technical or scientific course of study.

As a highlight, you spend a week working with our corporate partner ifm on digital solutions for the factory of tomorrow.

Study and profile directions

The Engineering Management and Optimization program offers the following profile directions:

  • Business Optimization
  • Development and Technological Innovation
  • International & Entrepreneurship

Depending on the chosen profile direction, the focus is then more on engineering, natural sciences or business administration content.

Profile directions

  • For the profile direction Business Optim ization, you should already have completed a degree in industrial engineering with a technical orientation. The main focus here is on understanding future developments, assessing their potential and optimally aligning companies with their products, business models and processes. The goal: to help shape the digital transformation of companies.
  • In the Development and Technological Innovation profile, the focus is very strongly on technical and scientific content. Compared to the profile direction Enterprise Optimization, the business management modules are replaced by engineering content. So if you are interested in the development of new products, here you can intensively deal with new technologies and development methods around modern, cyber-physical systems. In the process, you will work on specific projects and also implement them.
  • If you are interested in a double degree and would like to spend one or more semesters abroad, then the International & Entrepreneurship profile is right for you. Benefit from our cooperation with the South Champagne Business School in Troyes, France, and hone your skills in innovation and start-up management there. This profile direction focuses on your own business ideas and their realization.

 

 

 

Admission

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Application deadline for the winter semester: 15.07.
Application deadline for the summer semester: 15.01.

These are cut-off deadlines, i. e. your application must be received electronically by this date in order to be considered for the allocation of study places.

Please note: You will be informed about the status of your application electronically in the application portal. There will be no postal delivery.

Prerequisite for admission is a Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering or another at least equivalent university degree in technical or scientific fields with an overall grade of at least 3.0.

Admission with a 180-credit bachelor's degree is possible. In this case, additional achievements amounting to 30 credits must be completed during the Master's program.

For international applicants: Proof of the required German language skills by

  • DSH test: at least DSH 2
  • TestDaF: average of at least TDN 4, no single mark below 3.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND FOR SECOND DEGREE PROGRAMS

In Baden-Württemberg, since the winter semester 2017/2018, there is a tuition fee for international students (non-EU citizens) and a second-study fee. Thus, in some cases, a tuition fee must be paid in addition to the semester fee.

Prior to enrollment, applicants from non-EU countries or applicants for a second degree will receive a form to assess whether a tuition fee obligation actually exists.

Sonja Reiner

Sonja Reiner studied Technology Management & Optimization at RWU. Today she works as a project manager at ifm efector gmbh in Tettnang.

"I was particularly attracted to the TMO degree program by the range of different profiles on offer. Here, everyone has the opportunity to find their suitable specialization and the small group size creates a familiar atmosphere.

The great practical relevance during the course was particularly varied and exciting for me. In intensive group work, projects are developed in laboratories at RWU and in cooperation with companies from the region."

Yann Breitenbücher

Yann Breitenbücher studied Technology Management & Optimization at RWU. Today, he works as a Project Management Officer at Airbus Defence and Space in Immenstaad on Lake Constance.

"The practice-oriented master's program in Technology Management & Optimization (TMO) offered me a great opportunity to apply, deepen and expand the technical as well as business skills I had acquired in my bachelor's degree using real-world examples, case studies, simulations and products. In addition, I learned how to analyze processes, products, business models, and services in depth and ultimately optimize them based on my understanding of technical and business interrelationships.

In addition to the strong practical relevance, the offered specialization "International & Entrepreneurship" was particularly decisive for me, which enabled me to complete part of my master's studies at the partner university in France (SCBS) and to graduate with an additional Master of Science. After completing my TMO studies, I was then even able to choose from several job offers."

Julia Bux

Julia Bux studied Technology Management & Optimization at RWU. Today, she works as a management consultant at Voith in Heidenheim.

"What appealed to me most about the Technology Management & Optimization program was the wide range of subjects and the diversity of the university. The contact with international fellow students, the lectures in English and the many projects in different teams made it easier for me to start my career in an international company.

Thanks to the sound education at RWU, the intensive support of the professors and the opportunity to write my master's thesis in cooperation with a company, today, six years after graduating, I can look back on a stellar career at Voith."

Marcus Kronmaier studied Technology Management & Optimization at RWU. Today, he works as an Industrial Engineer at Lindauer Dornier GmbH in Lindau.

"The master's degree in Technology Management & Optimization (TMO) that I have completed is an extremely important building block for me to be able to master the major challenges in an increasingly complex professional world. Exciting projects with technology-oriented companies and research institutes from applied research were my personal highlights during the three semesters at RWU.

In addition, the specialization in topics such as production and management systems in particular provides a basis for setting the course at the central control points of manufacturing companies directly after graduation.

Right at the start of my career, I was given the opportunity to manage a plant restructuring project. Thus, the TMO master's program can be described analogously to the very appropriate RWU slogan: 'Realizing potential. Shaping the future'"

Jasmin Schmid

Jasmin Schmid studied industrial engineering and technology management & optimization at RWU. Today, she works as Head of Quality, Environment & Safety at AVL SET in Wangen im Allgäu.

"During my training as an administrative assistant, I quickly started to question processes. And I came to the conclusion that I would prefer to design and optimize processes in the future, with the goal of making real progress. I then decided to study industrial engineering because I've always been fascinated by technical solutions, but I'm also interested in the business side.

What I particularly liked about RWU was working with fellow students from different degree programs. As a result, I learned how to deal with different types of people (technicians, business administration graduates, etc.) during my studies, which really benefited me in the working world.

Afterwards, I did a Master's degree in Technology Management & Optimization at RWU to broaden my knowledge, especially with regard to topics like digital production, technological trends and innovative business models.

So now, as Head of Quality, Environment & Safety, I can work on topics that I can actively help shape and that I enjoy. In addition, as a female manager, I can work to motivate more women to take on responsible tasks."

Zinnäcker_Sven

Sven Zinnäcker

Sven Zinnäcker studied Engineering Management & Optimization at RWU. Today, he works as a development engineer for "Mechanic Design and Concepting" of driver assistance systems at the ZF Group in Friedrichshafen.

"Above all, the combination of technology and business administration was important to me when I decided on the broad-based master's program "Technology Management & Optimization" (TMO). In addition to the latest technologies, such as autonomous systems and 3D printing, the program also teaches business thinking and action.

The intensive group projects, some of which have to be worked on with companies and real tasks are particularly effective.

Above all, the interactions within the group are, in addition to the course content, probably the most important point in later working life.

After completing the "Master of Engineering", I was offered a job directly with a large automotive supplier. As a development engineer, I am jointly responsible for the "mechanical design and concepting" of driver assistance systems, which I really enjoy and which offers great development prospects.
