Special STEM offers for girls

Girls' Day at RWU

Studierende im Elektrotechnik-Labor.

How can sustainability be realized technically? How do the products of tomorrow emerge from creative ideas? Under the motto 'A day in technical studies', RWU will be represented at this year's Girls' Day on Thursday, April 27.

The university is opening its laboratories to female students who want to get an impression of technical studies. The schoolgirls will go through several stations to gain insights into various study programs at RWU:

  • In the Energy and Environmental Engineering lab, participants analyze various natural dyes.
  • In the Engineering Design major, they try their hand at sketching and learn why the golden ratio has made the iPhone a style icon.
  • Finally, in the electromobility lab, they build their own electric motor, which they can then take home with them.

Girls' Day is a nationwide career orientation day for girls in fifth grade and above. The day of action is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The offers are designed to give girls practical insight into - especially technical and scientific - professions in which women have so far been underrepresented. The aim is to strengthen and promote the proportion of girls and women in these areas and open up promising career fields.
