This year, Eindhoven University of Technology is hosting the world's largest robotics competition, the RoboCup. Over 3,000 students from 45 countries are taking part in the world championship. The RWU team has now qualified for the third time.

Every year, representatives of top international research in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence come together at the Robot Olympics to send robots into the race in various competitions. What once began as a robot soccer tournament has now developed into a major event with four leagues: Soccer, @Home, Rescue and Industry.

Service robots as everyday helpers

RWU students on the Computer Science and Mechatronics Master's degree courses will be competing in the @Home league with two service robots. Both robots, one of which was developed entirely in-house, are designed to relieve people of simple, everyday tasks, such as fetching objects. In addition to the domestic context, these autonomous assistants can also be used in care homes. There, they are intended to relieve the nursing staff so that they can focus on the professional care of the residents.

RWU team with many years of experience

After qualifying, the next challenge awaits on site in Eindhoven: two complex robots are to be presented at the competition, which must function flawlessly. What goes smoothly in the laboratory - a highly controllable environment - is all the more difficult in the competition situation itself. However, the RWU RoboCup team can look back on many years of experience and previous successes: in 2021 it won the "Best Poster Award RoboCup Virtual Worldcup" and in 2022 it took first place at the European Robotics League in Oldenburg. Last year, the team won the Open Challenge Award and took eighth place in the @Home Open Platform League at the RoboCup in Bordeaux.

Scientific exchange

The RoboCup Symposium will take place alongside the competitions. This is where experts discuss new scientific findings in the fields of AI and robotics.

The RoboCup team is currently making preparations and is still looking for sponsors. If you are interested, please contact Benjamnin Stähle (staehle@rwu.de) .
