With a business degree in IT? Yes of course!

Guest lecture of Dell Technologie Germany

Gastvortrag Dell

How am I supposed to get started in the IT industry as a business graduate without any prior knowledge? Do I even understand IT?" This is the question some business administration students ask themselves when considering their career prospects. However, Daniel Leibinger and Isabella Fabricius from Dell Technologies Germany wanted to show in a guest lecture on 05.04.2022 that graduates of business administration are exactly right in an IT company. As a graduate of the Bachelor's program in Business Administration and Management and the Master's program in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship, Daniel Leibinger knows that the entry options into an IT company are very good. Exciting tasks await business administration graduates in particular, including in the area of sales. Here they can advise customers on their future data center or on planning their business. Today he works as Inside Sales Account Manager at Dell Technologies.

To learn the technical - especially from information technology - Dell offers a specific program for newcomers from different disciplines. "Here you learn from scratch, step by step, what it means to work successfully in Sales, but also in the IT industry. And for all of this, no previous IT knowledge is required", says Isabella Fabricius, who as a sales manager at Dell has accompanied a number of career changers. In her guest lecture, she emphasized what really matters: what is particularly needed is an open and authentic personality that is willing to support customers with their challenges and seek solutions.

Above all, fostering and developing these personal skills is an important goal of the master's program in business administration and entrepreneurship. "We also want to give our students exciting insights into everyday working life and show them, what they can achieve with their degree and what diverse career options are available, from start-ups to large international companies." emphasizes Dean of Studies Prof. Frank Ermark. He would therefore like to continue offering practical insights in the form of guest lectures in the degree program. The main aim is to broaden the students' horizons beyond the study program and to provide support in finding their own career path.
