Is RWU a good place to study and work? What improvements would students, faculty and staff like to see? The "Quality Workshop" format, which has been held regularly at RWU since 2012, aims to find out. The last Quality Workshop took place in December 2023 as an online survey on the quality of studying, teaching and working at RWU. The focus was on measuring the satisfaction of the target groups with various aspects of university life, with an emphasis on support processes.

Students, faculty and staff largely satisfied

The results are in: As in the 2021 Quality Workshop, students, faculty and staff were mostly satisfied with RWU in 2023. Of more than 350 comments, almost 100 were praise for people, events or processes.

Some aspects were rated better than in the 2021 survey, others worse. For example, students are more satisfied with the information provided at the beginning of their studies than in 2021, but slightly less satisfied with the content and structure of their studies. There were no extreme changes in satisfaction, but rather slight deviations up or down.

Many suggestions for services, programs, and learning environment

In addition to satisfaction scores, suggestions for improvement were again collected, although significantly fewer than in 2021 due to the focus on measuring satisfaction. The suggestions were clustered and used to create a top 10. Due to the design of the survey, the top 10 is dominated by suggestions related to support processes.

Most comments were made about the quality of services, individual programs, and the facilities of the learning environment. For example, students would like to be reliably informed about cancelled classes and office hours, and for lecture notes to be regularly updated. Modernization of the learning environment is relevant to all target groups, as are short response times from lecturers, IT and technical operations.

Compared to the 2021 Quality Workshop, the topic of online and face-to-face teaching was barely mentioned by the 2023 respondents. It is worth noting that an even larger majority of students in 2023 wanted a mix of face-to-face and online teaching, with a clear preference for up to 25 percent online teaching.

What happens next

Based on the satisfaction scores and suggestions for improvement, the Rectorate will work with the relevant departments and divisions to identify priority actions to be implemented.

The overall evaluation of the 2023 Quality Workshop is available in the QM portal.
