Deradicalization from Research and Practice

Tag der Praxisanleitung

On the "Day of Practical Instruction", the Social Work program invites the instructors of the students who are currently in their practical semester. They make an important contribution to the practical training and so this day also expresses the university's solidarity with the social institutions in the region.

In addition, all social workers and social pedagogues who are in professional practice and are interested in the topics of the respective event are cordially invited.

At the day of practice guidance in the summer semester 2023 on Friday, May 5, Dr. Thea Rau, research group leader of the working group "Violence, Developmental Psychopathology and Forensics" at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Ulm University Hospital, will give the keynote lecture. It will deal with developmental pathways towards radicalization and extremist violence as well as the counseling landscape in the topic area of extremism.

Following on from this, a research project will be presented in which an instrument was developed to assess the need for action and intervention in the case of Islamist-based radicalization in counseling practice. The experiences from this project are transferable to other counseling contexts of social work.

In the second part of the morning, Christian Netti from the Regional Democracy Center Upper Swabia, Ravensburg District Youth Ring, presents his work in the Democracy Center Network. Among other things, he conducts training programs with children and young people and presents some of the methods used, which participants can try out for themselves.
