Information Security

Welcome to RWU Information Security

We live in the information age. Our everyday lives and working environments have already become highly digitalized and interconnected, and this trend will continue.

At our university just as in any other organization, reliable workflows and processes, as well as the execution of administrative tasks are based on our ability to secure the reliability and confidentiality of our data and information. Anything which threatens this fundamental information security jeopardizes the ability of our university to function and could result in substantial damage, including significant financial losses and serious reputational consequences.

The ever-increasing pace of digitalization is not only accelerating the speed at which people live and work, it also facilitates faster disruptions and automated attacks as global networking draws the world closer together in virtual space than ever before in the history of mankind. In short, the risks are growing alongside the opportunities. These risks stem from a variety of sources. Accidents, human error, catastrophic events, crime, espionage, transnational conflict, or even a single inquisitive teenager can lead to the destruction, manipulation, or leakage of confidential information and the collapse of IT systems.

Such incidents and their wide-ranging ramifications are not only reported on by the IT industry media; they are often the subject of popular mainstream news coverage.

Federal and state governments, as well as the private sector recognize the importance of cyber security and have adopted measures to protect the data which is stored by public organizations and institutions.

The Chief Information Security Officer at RWU is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Andriessens.
