TestDaF will check whether a candidate's level of German is sufficient for pursuing higher education in Germany. Reading, listening, writing and speaking will be tested. More precisely, the examinee will be asked to read and write about scientific topics and prove that he/she is capable of communicating in every-day life at a university (listening and speaking). Hence intermediate or advanced knowledge of the German language (B2/C1 level according to CEFR) is recommended.
The test takes 3 hours and 10 minutes. It is either completed with pen and paper or on a computer. The TestDaF-certificate is valid for an unlimited period of time and it's accepted by all universities and universities of applied sciences in Germany. Thereby, each universitiy decides on its own which level is required for approval.
You will find further information on the TestDaF website.
