International language certificates
What is an international language certificate?
An international language certificate provides evidence that you master a particular language at a certain level. Tests for international language certificates are conducted using internationally recognized standards. These certificates are often required by universities and employers to ensure that applicants master a language at an appropriate level.
The next available TestDaF test date (digital TestDaF) at RWU Ravensburg-Weingarten University will be held on Tuesday 6 February, 2024. Registration is only possible via the TestDaF Portal.

If you are not officially enrolled as a student at the university, you are welcome to attend the course as a guest student to participate in the TestDaF preparation. To enroll as a guest student, please contact Ms. Müller .
The TestDaF primarily tests whether the examinee's German language skills are sufficient for university studies in Germany. Reading, listening, writing and speaking in German are tested.The TestDaF assesses whether the examinee can comprehend scientific texts (reading and listening) and participate in communication in courses and seminars and in everyday university life (writing and speaking). Therefore, a good knowledge of B2/C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required.

English language certificates
You need an official, globally recognized language certificate for English? To apply at a college/university abroad? We recommend to take either the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language iBT) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
The TOEFL iBT is now also offered in an online format as Home Edition, see the ETS website for details. Please clarify in advance which certificate is recognized.
Do you need an internationally recognized English language certificate to start your professional career? Tests such as the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), the Cambridge Business Qualifications or also IELTS are suitable tests to prove your knowledge and skills in this area.

The assessment of English language skills at RWU is consists of two parts: First, you will take the Oxford Placement Test, which tests reading, writing, and listening skills. To do this, please register for one of the test dates in LSF , LSF-No. 4849 Language Certificates/English Placement Tests. You may register for the test dates via LSF up to two days before the test date. Please note that there are no test dates in August and September. The second part of the language test consists of an interview in English with our English lecturer Ms Lisa Walz to assess your speaking skills. For the interview date, please get in touch with Ms Walz.
The test results are valid for 2 years. After 12 months you can repeat the test.

NB: Participation in the test is only possible for the purpose of applying for a stay abroad (study semester or internship/internship abroad) or for the purpose of internal application for an RWU Master's program. Test takers who take the test to find out the level of their English language skills, i.e. who take the test without a valid reason, will incur costs.
Assessment of other languages
If you need a assessment of language skills for another foreign language offered at RWU Ravensburg-Weingarten University, you will also have to take a placement test. Your grammar and vocabulary knowledge will be tested online, and your speaking and listening comprehension will be tested by the respective language teacher.

The test is free, takes about 15 minutes, and will help you to quickly assess your language level and select the appropriate course from our program.
Some language publishers also offer free online placement tests for various languages.
